What Is Kohl’s Return Policy?

According to the new Kohl’s return policy, the store no longer has 180 day return window. New policy allows returns within 90 days if purchased with regular payment methods, or within 120 days if purchased using a Kohl’s card.

The changes in the policy provoked a lot of confusion in Kohl’s reviews. For example, in review #6620727, a customer described being unable to return unused men’s dress slacks:

Today I attempted to return the item and was told the return policy has changed. It is now 90 days out and I could not return the item which was still in the original packaging …

What Are Exceptions to Kohl’s Return Policy?

The following items are non-returnable:

  • Beverages
  • Opened/unsealed breast pumps and accessories
  • “Final sale” items
  • Used or damaged beauty products

Some items have shorter return periods, while others have longer return periods. 

  • Premium electronics and watches have strict return and refund conditions. They must be returned within 30 days in their original packaging with a valid receipt or account/tender lookup.
  • Beauty items also have a shorter return period of 30 days from the date of purchase. They must be new or in gently used condition, and with a valid receipt, or account/or tender lookup.
  • On the other hand, Kohl’s has a generous 365-day return window for items purchased from the gift registry. When returning, you must produce the original or gift receipt.
  • They also have an extended holiday return period. All Kohl’s purchases made between October 5 through October 31, 2025, are eligible for return through January 31, 2026. 

How to Return Items at Kohl’s?

You can return items in-store or online via mail, depending on where you bought them. Below is how each option works.

In-store returns

According to Kohl’s return policy, items purchased on kohls.com are not eligible for return in-store. However, you can return items purchased in-store in any convenient location; you do not have to return to the specific store where you purchased the item.

Simply visit the customer service counter at a Kohl’s. Bring the item alongside proof of purchase, such as the order number or a physical or digital receipt. 

You do not need to repackage the items or print any label. However, the items should be in good, unused, unwashed condition. A Kohl’s customer service representative will inspect the items and process your refund immediately, if eligible. 

Online returns

Only items purchased on kohls.com can be returned online. Here is how to return a Kohl’s online order: 

  1. Log in to your account on kohls.com.
  2. Go to your order history and click on the order number of the item you want to return.
  3. The packing slip/receipt will be available next to the tracking number.
  4. Pack the items in a sturdy box and include your name, email address, and order number.
  5. Then mail the package to Kohl’s return center:

Kohl’s does not provide a prepaid shipping label. The customer is responsible for any postage needed to send back the items. 

And it catches some customers by surprise. For example, in review #5985891, the customer wanted to return a bulky mattress pad and was disappointed that they had to pay the return shipping fees.

I simply want to return a mattress pad - a bulky, hard-to-manage item to get back into the box! I'm glad I discovered that they won't cover the cost of mailing it back…

Can You Returns Items to Kohl’s without a Receipt?

Kohl’s return FAQ states that they “accept most returns with or without a receipt” within the applicable return period.

However, Kohl’s returns without a receipt may be subject to third-party verification and system approval. You may be asked to provide a valid identification document, such as your state ID, passport, or driver’s license. A Kohl’s customer support representative may also ask for details about the product, payment method, and purchase date. 

If approved, returns without a receipt are issued a Kohl’s Merchandise Credit based on the item’s lowest discounted price in the last 13 weeks. 

What Is Kohl’s Sephora Return Policy?

Sephora products bought at kohls.com or Sephora outlets at any Kohl’s location can be returned within 30 days in new or gently used condition. Notably, returns without a receipt are not accepted. 

Purchases made through kohls.com or at a Kohl’s store cannot be returned to a standalone Sephora store or mailed to Sephora.com. Likewise, merchandise bought at Sephora.com or a Sephora store cannot be returned to a Kohl’s location or through kohls.com.

Notably, Kohl’s offers an extended return period for Sephora items purchased between October 31, 2025, and December 30, 2025. These items are eligible for returns through January 31, 2026. However, Sephora items marked as “final sale” are not returnable. 

How to Return Amazon Items to Kohl’s?

Another common customer question is: Can you return Amazon items to Kohl’s? The simple answer is yes. You can return items bought on Amazon.com at a participating Kohl’s store near you. Kohl’s accepts Amazon returns nationwide, except in Anchorage, Alaska.

Below are the steps to return Amazon items at a Kohl’s store:

  1. Log in to your Amazon account and initiate a return for the item.
  2. In the return options, select a Kohl’s drop-off location.
  3. Amazon will issue you a QR code through your account or via email.
  4. Bring the item(s) and the QR code to a nearby Kohl’s store.
  5. Show the QR code to a Kohl’s associate at the drop-off location.
  6. Kohl’s will pack, label, and ship your return for free.

What Is Kohl’s Refunds and Replacements Process?

Items returned with a receipt are refunded to the original payment method. Non-receipted returns are issued a Kohl’s Merchandise Credit at the item’s lowest recent sale price. 

According to Kohl’s refund policy, shipping charges are non-refundable. Kohl’s refunds only the amount paid for the merchandise. 

For mail-in returns, allow up to 30 days for Kohl’s to process the refund after the items have been received at the return center. 

If you return items purchased with Kohl’s Cash, the refund is applied back to the original Kohl’s Cash coupon if it’s still valid. If it has expired, Kohl’s issues a new Kohl’s Cash coupon for the appropriate amount.

How Easy Is It to Return Items to Kohl’s?

Kohl’s return policy is straightforward, with clear terms and conditions for different product categories. Still, reviews point to occasional consumer issues. For example, some shopper report that their returns were declined despite being within the stated window.
