Netflix has changed the way we consume TV shows and movies. It was instrumental in disrupting the home video and DVD market, shook the ground beneath the feet of movie theaters and film studios, and kept millions of us entertained during the pandemic.

However, the streaming entertainment business is a highly competitive industry with big names. Therefore, comparing streaming services, like Hulu vs. Netflix, to ensure you get the best deal and the right content for your needs is always a good idea.

With so much choice, consumers shouldn’t feel compelled to subscribe to a streaming service they no longer wish to watch. So, how do you talk to Netflix or what should you do to cancel your Netflix subscription? In this article, we’ll share all the details on how you can close your account.

How Does Netflix TV Work?

Netflix streams its content via smart TVs, connected streaming devices such as Roku, Amazon Fire Stick, or Apple TV, mobile devices including smartphones and tablets, and games consoles. To access Netflix's service, you'll need an internet connection and an active subscription based on available content, the number of devices the service is viewed on, advertising preferences, and streaming quality.

How Much is Netflix?

Netflix prices its services using three different subscription plans:

  • The standard plan with ads costs $6.99 per month and allows subscribers to stream or download most TV shows and movies (although some titles will be locked) on up to two supported devices in 1080p (Full HD).
  • The standard plan costs $15.49 per month and allows ad-free access to stream or download content on up to two devices in 1080p (Full HD). It also offers the opportunity to add an additional member living at a different address for an extra $7.99 per month.
  • The premium plan costs $22.99 per month and allows ad-free access to stream content on up to four devices and download to up to six devices in 4K (Ultra HD) + HDR. It also offers the opportunity to add two additional members living at a different address for an extra $7.99 per month per member.

The Netflix plans are automatically charged on the same date each month. It’s always a good idea to monitor these payments and, in the case of any unexpected charges, contact the Netflix customer service team promptly. The importance of early intervention is regularly highlighted in online reviews, including this recent review #6213297 on PissedConsumer:

I was charged since June for additional users I never added or wanted extra users. The issue has been resolved I was told I would be refunded. I was refunded $4.68. It should have been around $60. I dont have time for this. Ready to be done with these automatic payments and prices automatically changing without notification.

Updating your payment method

You can resolve some consumer issues without calling the Netflix hotline. For example, if your account has been blocked because your payment card has expired, you'll need to update your payment method. To do this, log in to your Netflix account on a web browser, go to Account Settings by selecting your profile icon, click Manage Payment Info under Membership & Billing, enter your new payment details, and then hit Save.

How to Contact Netflix?

Depending on the nature of your inquiry, PissedConsumer lists a range of contact telephone numbers, Netflix email contact details, and social media handles. The most popular method to contact Netflix customer service is via its (888) 638-3549 toll-free number. Consumers typically contact this number regarding account issues, including activation and cancellation, payments, and charges.

Netflix customer service hours are a 24/7 operation. For people calling this Netflix phone number, the average hold time is approximately 3 minutes. However, this wait can be upwards of 6 minutes if you call Netflix customer service during busy periods. When you call, you may be asked for your full name, email address, or telephone number to identify your account.

For those who don't want to hold for a customer service agent, in this recent review of Netflix, a user shared how helpful Netflix customer service chat was. When they wanted to speak to someone at Netflix about their hacked account, however, a phone call was not effective.

So I contacted them on the chat service. I had much better success that way... It was easy, and I stopped stressing about it. Very happy with their customer service chat, although the phone service was let down.

This recent review on PissedConsumer #6205132 highlights just one reason why people often need to contact customer service to cancel their Netflix account.
