Both Uber Eats and DoorDash are accessible across all the US states. However, Uber Eats has a wider global reach. It serves more than 6000 cities across 45 countries. 

In contrast, DoorDash has a more limited reach globally, but a stronger presence in the US. Internationally, DoorDash only operates in the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. It is available in over 7000 cities in the US. 

Both DoorDash and Uber Eats are available on iOS, Android, and the web through DoorDash.com and Ubereats.com respectively.

Who Has the Better Prices? 

When comparing Uber Eats and DoorDash, we ran the same orders on both apps, delivered to the same address, and at the same time of day, to keep things fair.

An identical McDonald’s order ended up being cheaper on Uber Eats. The subtotal on DoorDash was a bit higher — $26.64 compared to $23.64 on Uber Eats.

The total was $39.06, while DoorDash came out to $43.20 once we added back the $4.99 delivery fee that was originally waived with a promo. That discount was only for a first-time order, so we didn’t include it in our actual comparison.

Even though DoorDash’s item prices were slightly higher, the real difference came from the fees, making Uber Eats the better deal by a little over four dollars.

But for the smaller Taco Bell order, DoorDash was still more affordable — $10.33 compared to $13.68 on Uber Eats. The difference mostly came down to delivery and service fees again.

It’s also worth noting that delivery fees on both apps can change based on a few things: how far the restaurant is, what time you're ordering, how busy the area is, and how many drivers are available. DoorDash delivery fees tend to be $2-3 cheaper than Uber Eats for similar orders.

Other common charges on both platforms are:

• Service charge - Typically, the service charge for DoorDash is 10-11% of the order subtotal before discounts and promotions are applied. Compared to 15% for Uber Eats.
• Small order fee – Applies to orders under a certain amount. Restaurants set their minimum order amount and their fees.
• Driver’s tip – optional.

In addition to these standard charges, DoorDash may also charge a Regulatory Response Fee. It is a flat fee that DoorDash charges when a local or state regulation leads to increased operating costs. While in DoorDash review, the customer complained:

…Instead you charged my card several times for $7.12 with out my authorization, issued credits to my account with out my permission and refused to correct the refund amount…

Uber Eats, for instance, has teamed up with Sally Beauty to offer on-demand delivery of beauty supplies across the country. They've also partnered with FreshDirect and Gopuff.

On the other hand, DoorDash has also made some notable moves. Recently, we had food delivery services ranked from the worst to the best. Uber Eats ranked the worst with a 35.92% customer satisfaction, while DoorDash ranked as the 2nd best after GrubHub, with a customer satisfaction rate of 59.46%.

However, both companies have similar customer service complaints. Although customers are able to contact DoorDash and Uber Eats customer service via phone, they do not always get the assistance they are seeking.

For example, in DoorDash review, the customer described the customer support as “the absolute worst”. Their order had taken longer than expected to be delivered, so they called the restaurant and DoorDash customer service to follow up. This is what they wrote about the response they got: 

…DoorDash customer service blamed the restaurant restaurant, saying they hadn't confirmed the order, which is a complete lie as we had received the confirmation from DoorDash…

Similarly, in Uber Eats review, the customer wrote,

…The customer service for ubereats is absolutely disgusting.The disgusting attitude and ignorance was beyond words…

They had tried to cancel an order that hadn’t been picked up for over an hour, but were met with unhelpful support.
